ILORIN, KWARA STATE — The Kwara State Police Command has denied reports that a 23-year-old motorcyclist, Abdurasaq Lukman, was shot by police officers during an incident around Oyun Bridge in Ilorin.
The clarification followed the circulation of a video on social media suggesting that the motorcyclist had been shot during an encounter with police personnel.
According to the police, officers were conducting routine patrol and stop-and-search duties in the area when Lukman allegedly rode at high speed and collided with Corporal Saka Azeez, who was on duty.
The command said the collision left Corporal Azeez with serious head injuries and a fracture, while Lukman sustained minor injuries. Both were taken to a medical facility for treatment.
Police said Lukman was treated and discharged but remains in custody to assist with investigations. Corporal Azeez, meanwhile, remains under medical care and is expected to undergo further examinations and scans to determine the extent of his injuries.
The command maintained that no person was shot during the incident and urged members of the public to verify information before sharing unconfirmed reports online.
The incident has generated discussions online, with the police clarification coming amid public concern over the circumstances surrounding the encounter.
