Aerial footage from the 2026 Annual Convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has offered a striking view of the enormous gathering at Redemption City, Ogun State, as thousands of worshippers came together for the church's 74th Annual Convention.
The convention, held from August 3 and concluding on August 9, 2026, was themed “Mountain Movers.” The week-long programme brought together RCCG members, ministers and worshippers for worship, prayers, Bible teachings and other spiritual activities.
While ground-level videos from the convention have circulated widely, aerial footage has offered a completely different perspective. From above, large portions of the Redemption City grounds can be seen occupied by worshippers, giving viewers a clearer sense of just how big the gathering was.
One aerial video shared during the convention captured a section of Redemption City from above, while another video from the RCCG Young Adults and Youths Affairs combined ground-level and aerial shots to show the gathering from both perspectives.
The 2026 gathering marked RCCG's 74th Annual Convention, one of the church's major annual events. The “Mountain Movers” theme centred on overcoming obstacles through faith, and the week featured prayers, worship sessions and teachings from Pastor E.A. Adeboye and other ministers.
The programme also featured major ministerial activities. RCCG ordained 2,820 candidates as full pastors, 11,830 as deacons and deaconesses, and another 5,977 as assistant pastors.
There was also a lighter and more human detail from the convention. On the final day, Pastor Adeboye announced that at least 88 babies had been born at Redemption City during the convention — 52 boys and 36 girls.
The convention closed with a thanksgiving service on Sunday, August 9.
What makes the aerial footage stand out isn't just the number of people — it's the perspective. At ground level, it can be difficult to grasp the scale of a gathering like this. From above, however, the scale comes into full focus, with rows upon rows of worshippers filling the convention grounds.
There's something worth considering beyond the visuals too.
The footage comes at a time when churches and Christian leaders are routinely criticised, defended and debated across social media. Against that backdrop, thousands of people physically showing up to worship together offers another perspective.
Whatever the online conversation looks like on any given day, it does not necessarily reflect everything happening on the ground.
Criticism and continued participation can exist side by side, and the size of the gathering is a reminder that one does not necessarily cancel out the other.
The scale of the gathering naturally draws attention to the church's General Overseer, Pastor E.A. Adeboye, who has led RCCG for decades and remains one of Nigeria's most recognisable Christian leaders.
Adeboye has also been the subject of considerable discussion, praise and criticism, particularly on social media.
The aerial footage does not settle any of those debates, nor does it erase criticism directed at him or the church. What it does show is that a substantial community of people continues to identify with RCCG and participate in its programmes, regardless of how loud the online conversation becomes.
For many of those worshippers, the convention is ultimately about faith, worship, prayer and fellowship.
Located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway in Ogun State, Redemption City has become closely associated with RCCG's major programmes. During the convention, the city hosted worshippers and ministers taking part in the various activities.
For people who were not physically present — including viewers watching from outside Nigeria — the aerial footage offered a rare visual sense of the size of the gathering.
It is easy to focus entirely on crowd size when watching footage like this, but the week was about more than what any camera could capture.
For those in attendance, it meant worship, prayer, Bible teaching, fellowship and reflection. For the church's ministers, it included ordinations and other church activities. And for the thousands who travelled from different locations, it meant gathering together in one place for a shared expression of faith.
That, ultimately, is what makes the footage worth pausing on.
