There is something inherently wrong with Nigeria. To think that the Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu mummified showcasing and stunts in Paris just went like that, coupled with his inability to go to the UN General Assembly which I heard is because of his mortal fear that the US govt could order his arrest for his past drug-dealing case, is just surprising.

Every sycophant is playing along, and society has acquiesced completely.

Tinubu is not on vacation; he is receiving treatment in France, and they will package him to return as though nothing happened. We have seen this script before with Yar’Adua and Buhari: secrecy, deception, carefully managed appearances, and a country expected to look away.

Nigeria must be liberated not only from these machinations but from the mentality that sustains them.

₦18,000 Minimum Wage Bought More Than ₦70,000 Does Today - Makinde

Makinde spoke on Friday while addressing civil servants at the government house in Agodi, Ibadan, the Oyo state capital, after returning from his annual leave.

The governor said the old N18,000 minimum wage during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan could buy more than the current N70,000.

A month before Makinde was sworn in for his first term as governor of Oyo, the late former President Muhammadu Buhari increased the minimum wage for civil servants from N18,000 to N30,000 per month in April 2019.

Nearly five years later, President Tinubu raised the minimum wage to N70,000 in July 2024 as part of efforts to cushion the impact of the removal of the petrol subsidy.

In August, Taiwo Oyedele, minister of finance and coordinating minister of the economy, said the economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy, had mobilised N15.8 trillion in resources for the federation between June 2023 and December 2025.

Makinde, however, said the increase in minimum wage had not effectively tackled the economic hardship caused by the removal of the petrol subsidy.

“It’s been a very challenging period, economically. Yes, FAAC has gone up. But when I came in as governor, the first salary bill I signed was N4.5 billion,” he said.

“Today, the salary bill is N18 billion. The minimum wage as of the time I came was N18,000. Today, it is N80,000. But the N18,000 of that time can even buy more than what the current N70,000 can do today.

“That is the kind of voodoo economy that they have handed over to Nigeria.

“So, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), we have to sit down. Our people are challenged. That is the reality. The resources are limited.”

In view of the economic situation, the governor said his administration would extend its current wage award to workers across the state for another three months, while transport subsidies would also continue.

‘WHY IS HE SCARED OF HANDING OVER TO THE VICE PRESIDENT’

The governor also criticised Tinubu over what he described as the president’s failure to formally transfer power to Vice-President Kashim Shettima while away from the country.

Makinde compared the situation with his own recent annual vacation, during which he said he handed over to Bayo Lawal, his deputy.

“I went on vacation, but I handed over to my deputy governor. I am running to be the president of Nigeria because I have the capacity,” Makinde said.

“They’re trampling on the constitution of Nigeria. If the president is out of the country, why is he scared of handing over power to the vice-president?

“I went away for one month, but my team was able to carry the responsibility of running the state. So, tell him (Tinubu) to follow the constitution of Nigeria.

“He swore at the Eagle Square to abide by the constitution. If the president is not around, hand over the government to the vice-president. That is the constitution.”

 Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham has denied being a member of the Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 elections.

Her reaction followed the release of the party’s campaign council list on Thursday which included her among 33 personalities under its Entertainment and Creative Economy Directorate.

In a statement shared on her Instagram Story, Abraham said she had decided to stay out of politics and asked the public to disregard her inclusion in the campaign structure.

“I’m not a member of any campaign council. I have said it recently, I am staying out of politics. Please disregard the supposed inclusion of my name in any campaign committee,” she said.

Remi Tinubu Donates ₦5m To Support Anambra Farmers Under RHI

 First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has donated ₦5 million to support farmers in Anambra State through the Renewed Hope Initiative.

The intervention is part of efforts under the initiative to support agricultural production, strengthen the livelihoods of farmers and contribute to food security.

The Renewed Hope Initiative, established by the First Lady, has programmes covering areas including agriculture, economic empowerment, education, health and social investment. It has previously provided grants and other forms of support to farmers and small business owners across different parts of the country.

The Anambra intervention comes as food production remains a major concern for Nigeria, with farmers facing challenges including high input costs, access to finance, insecurity in some farming communities and difficulties getting products to markets.

Support for small-scale farmers can help them purchase inputs, expand production and improve their ability to earn income from agriculture.

Agriculture remains particularly important to Nigeria’s economy because millions of Nigerians depend on farming and related activities for their livelihoods.

The Federal Government has also continued to promote increased domestic food production as part of its broader response to food inflation and economic pressures.

The impact of any agricultural support will depend not only on the amount provided but also on how effectively it is distributed and used.

The latest donation is therefore expected to provide direct assistance to the selected farmers while supporting the broader goal of strengthening agricultural activity in Anambra.

The RHI has previously implemented empowerment programmes involving women farmers and petty traders. In one earlier intervention, the initiative provided grants to women to help them expand their businesses and improve household income.

With food prices remaining a major concern for Nigerian households, increased support for farmers could become increasingly important.

The challenge will be ensuring that interventions reach genuine farmers, are properly monitored and translate into higher production rather than becoming short-term relief.

Anambra farmers receiving the latest support, the ₦5 million intervention represents another effort to put resources directly into agricultural activities and strengthen livelihoods.
